Cialis is a drug used to treat problems with sexual function in men. It is the long acting version of the well-known drug Viagra. Many men prefer Cialis over Viagra because it stays in the system longer. The effects of Cialis can last for up to 36 hours.
Erectile dysfunction (otherwise known as ED) occurs when men experience a lack of blood flow to the penis. There are many possible causes for this. It could be due to medical issues, medications or emotional issues. ED is a very common problem and one that can often be easily resolved with Cialis. Men can choose to either take one low dose pill per day or 30 minutes before having intercourse. It is best to talk this over with one's doctor to decide which course of action is most appropriate for each given circumstance. Cialis is available in four strengths, 2.5, 5, 10, and 20 mg.
Cialis works by relaxing the smooth muscles and arteries in the penis. It also simultaneously increases the penis's blood flow. A man needs to be sexually aroused for Cialis 20mg to work. When he does become aroused, the mix of an increase in blood flow and relaxation allows the blood to flow to the penis. The penis then fills up with blood, causing an erection. Cialis will not work if the man is not aroused sexually.
Cialis is also used for two conditions other than ED. It is used for a condition called benign prostatic hypertrophy (otherwise known as BPH). The symptoms of BPH, which can be treated using Cialis include urinary urgency, hesitancy, weak stream, incontinence, and dribbling. Cialis is also approved for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in the USA, Canada, and Japan to be taken once a day. It helps improve on the ability to exercise for people who have this condition.
As is the case with any drug, there are potential side effects to Cialis. These include headache, back pain, indigestion, flushing, muscle pain, nausea, flushing and stuffy nose. In men who report back pain, the pain usually starts twelve to twenty-four hours after taking the medication and it typically subsides within forty-eight hours. Cialis cannot be taken with nitrate medications because it can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, which can be dangerous. It is important that your doctor knows about any heart issue because sexual activity can increase strain on the heart. Rarely Cialis can lead to a prolonged erection, which can also be dangerous. Any erection lasting more than four hours should be considered an emergency because it can permanently damage the tissue that causes an erection.
There are also some less common side effects. In 2005, the US Food and Drug Administration determined that Cialis can be associated with a condition called NAION, a form of vision impairment. However, in most cased it was found that most people who experienced this effect had underlying medical conditions to begin with. The FDA were unable to establish a direct cause and effect between the drug and this condition. In 2007 the FDA made an announcement that all PDE5 inhibitors (including Cialis) can carry a risk of sudden hearing loss.
Cialis is overall a great choice for many men who live with ED.
